Paulina Welzenbach, from the Department of Plant-based Foods – University of Hohenheim, presented research carried out within QUIPACK at the 11th GDL Food Technology Congress, held in Dresden in September.
Her presentation focused on developing sustainable biocomposites from plant-based side streams for packaging applications. The work investigates the use of quinoa stalk fibres to reinforce thermoplastics for 3D-printed packaging, exploring new uses for agricultural side streams.
The congress provided an opportunity to share QUIPACK’s research with researchers and industry representatives from the German-speaking food and packaging community. Discussions also addressed the implementation of the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation in the food sector.
